This new consensus statement provides updated guidance for the safe and effective use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in pre-hospital and emergency settings — aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy and ensure the safety of both patients and pre-hospital care providers.
The statement has been developed through a structured review of current evidence and collaboration between experts in pre-hospital care. It addresses indications for the use of POCUS, the training and competencies required, equipment and infection-control considerations, governance and crucially emphasising that its use should not delay interventions or transport to definitive care.
The new POCUS Consensus Statement is now available via our website. FPHC encourage all stakeholders — clinical teams, educational providers, operational services, and governance bodies — to review the guidance and integrate its recommendations into their practice.
