It continues to improve standards through examinations, educational events, consensus statements, and endorsement of pre-hospital courses nationwide.
In 2014, the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh established a professorship to be awarded bi-annually by the College in open competition to practitioners of pre-hospital care who have made a significant contribution to the clinical and/or scientific basis of pre-hospital care over an extended period of their career and acquired a national or international reputation.
This professorship is eponymously named The Gibson Professorship in recognition of Professor Myles Gibson and the title will be held by the recipient for the 2-year duration of the Award.
