One of the founding aims of the Faculty was to maintain standards of practice in pre-hospital care. One way the Faculty achieves this is through the provision of professional examinations and academic programmes, in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, related to the clinical practice of pre-hospital care.

The Faculty administers the Intercollegiate Board for Training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine. The Intercollegiate Board for Training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine is responsible for training and assessment in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) in the UK on behalf of its parent Colleges.

Accreditation as a Consultant (Level 8) Practitioner in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine
