Saving Lives International is a charity aimed at improving health outcomes following disasters, primarily working in India and Nepal. The charity focusses on advancing disaster medicine preparedness and response through education and provision of equipment or medical aid. Saving Lives International was born following 30 years of humanitarian work and post-disaster recovery programmes undertaken by its Chair, Dr Peter Patel.

Dr Rob Russell and Dr David Bruce visited Kathmandu, Nepal, to represent the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC) in association with Saving Lives International (SLI). During their visit to Kathmandu, Dr Russell & Dr Bruce consulted on Nepal’s disaster response framework and led discussions with medical colleagues on the structure of the UK’s major incident response network.

FPHC and SLI are working to establish the Pre-Hospital Trauma Care (PHTC) course in Nepal, to further their preparedness for major incidents. Following from the success of this visit, Dr Russell travelled on to Chennai, India, to deliver PHTC instructor and provider courses.
