The Faculty of Pre Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FPHC), is highly supportive of the Prehospital Care Programme (PCP) initiated by Bart’s and the London in 2007. It was ahead of its time in promoting practical student involvement in PHEM and tapped a rich vein of need and enthusiasm. Following the Bart’s programme there are now many such PCPs across the country and the annual national PCP conference is an eagerly awaited and very well organized event.

The FPHC wishes to continue to work with the national PCP teams to promote and support the ideas and work streams. This may take the form of academic endorsement of activities through use of our logo, support for academic endeavors and pilot schemes and financial support for the annual conference i.e. through sponsorship for academic activity and/or prizes for poster competitions or similar.

It is proposed that a formal contact process be set in place at senior level by creating membership on the FPHC Faculty Board for an academic with expertise in undergraduate prehospital care programmes – in the first instance this will be Dr Goodsman from Bart’s and the London. Further, that the PCP Conference Lead Student will be co-opted as a member of the FPHC National Student & Junior Doctor committee for that year.
