Outcome FPHC UK Student Electives 2019
Following a very competitive process and the review of many high quality applications, we are delighted to announce the names of the winning students for the FPHC UK Elective(s) 2019.

The end of the application process coincided with the signing of a pilot elective association (no pun intended) between the FPHC and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) that we had been working on for some time. As soon as both opportunities became available it was decided that they would be awarded to the first two successful applicants with the winner getting first choice.

Lakshmi Manikam-Ananthanarayana from the University of Bristol was the very narrow winner and will be joining EHAAT in February 2019. The main elements of the programme will include:
- Inclusion in daily training exercises with the duty crew.
- Attending and contributing to governance meetings.
- Observation shifts on EHAAT helicopters and Rapid Response Vehicles with the duty crew.
- Completion of an audit or other project on an element of HEMS work.
- Spending time with the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
- Exposure to telephone triage and dispatch in the EEAST control centre
- Reporting back to both the charity and the faculty in terms of an elective report / experience and any projects completed therein
- Spending some shifts with EEAST front line vehicles.
- Spending time in Edinburgh during one of the FPHC Examination weeks to gain a wider understanding of the underpinning organisation required to support PHEM as an entity in all its facets.

Alexandra Jowett from the Queen's University Belfast will be joining the Welsh Ambulance Service and will take part in the following activities:
- Shifts with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust in their Double Crew Ambulances and Rapid Response Vehicles
- Time with the Emergency Medical Retrieval & Transfer Service (EMRTS Cymru)
- Time spent with the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics
- Operational Management Experience
- Probably some time spent with Police Firearms units, Fire Service and other units acting as an expert patient or instructor depending on skill set
- Opportunities to teach and instruct on skills or trauma assessments
- Time spent in the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care in Edinburgh, with the chance to assist in the FIMC and DIMC examinations and gain a wider understanding of the underpinning organisation required to support PHEM as an entity in all its facets
- Observer shifts with local Pre Hospital Responders
- The opportunity to complete an agreed short audit on a topic of mutual interest
- Reporting back to both the Service & Faculty on what was gained from the experience.
