It is a great privilege to take on the Chairmanship of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care from Colville Laird. Colville leaves the Chairman’s role and becomes Immediate Past Chair after many years of service and leadership in pre-hospital care both in the Faculty and in BASICS Scotland. He is also continuing to influence the development of rural healthcare with a new role as an Honorary Professor at the University of Central Lancashire.  The next few years are potentially exciting times for the Faculty. This year the RCSEd became the lead college for Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and the future professional home of PHEM trainees and sub-specialists. In addition we have made huge progress in access to pre-hospital examinations for non physicians and hope to work with the other relevant bodies to progress and define multiprofessional roles in the future. The Faculty has a number of established and new diplomas in specific areas of pre-hospital care which are at various stages of delivery. The Diploma in Retrieval and Transfer Medicine has been a popular addition to the long established Diploma and Fellowship in Immediate Medical Care. Work is also progressing well on the Diplomas in Urgent Medical Care and Major Incident Management. The education programmes in Remote and Offshore Medicine and most recently Mountain Medicine complete the current Faculty portfolio. I look forward to contributing to the continued success and development of the Faculty as it continues to take a pivotal role in the thriving field of pre-hospital care.
