The programme aims to give registered healthcare practitioners the theoretical and practical knowledge to manage the specific illnesses and diseases that may occur in the mountain environment. This flexible blended learning programme provides a unique and challenging programme that combines mountaineering and medicine. It provides a range of interesting learning opportunities, encompassing theoretical knowledge and practical mountain skills.
This programme of study can lead to a number of awards:
The majority of the learning at certificate level is undertaken during face to face events held in the Welsh Mountains, the Cairngorm Plateau in Scotland and the European Alps. This learning is also supported by a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which is hosted on Moodle, with an assigned mentor from the teaching staff. The diploma level study is done through supported self-directed learning. Peer support is strongly encouraged and developed through shared learning activities and a love of the mountains.
