The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care

Information and How to Apply

Fully Inclusive Representation

The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is seeking to broaden elected representation from its membership categories on to its Faculty Advisory Board and for the first time enable direct elected representation on to its Executive Committee.

The current elected representatives' posts are due to end in June 2017 and the process has just begun to replace them.

In this election we are seeking to appoint to the Faculty Advisory Board:

  • Two Doctors to represent Doctors at levels 5-8
  • Two Nurses to represent Nurses at levels 5-8
  • Two Paramedics to represent Paramedics and Non-Registered Health Care Professionals at levels 4-8
  • For the first time, we are also seeking two Non-Health Care Professional Representatives for levels 1-3

The individual with the highest number of votes in each of the above categories will also be automatically appointed as that group’s elected representative on the Faculty’s Executive Committee.

Please Note:

1) Health Care students at level 1 may stand for election as Non-Health Care Representatives (level 1-3) but must demit office once they qualify as a Registered Health Care Professional.

2) Non-Registered Health Care Professionals (level 4) will vote for and be represented by the Paramedic Representative but will not be able to stand for election themselves.

Roles and Responsibilities

Faculty Advisory Board

The elected representatives will be informed of their success the week beginning 19 June 2017 and would be expected to attend the Faculty Advisory Board meeting in Edinburgh on 11 July.

They will be expected to attend at least two of the four meetings a year (two held in Edinburgh and two in Birmingham) – this can be by teleconference or in person.  It is hoped that they will attend the first meeting in person so that faces can be put to names for the future. Travel expenses are paid in line with the Faculty's Travel and Expenses Guidelines.

Those elected onto the Executive Committee will also be expected to attend all meetings whenever possible. These are held every two months by teleconference in the evening at 20:00 hrs, with one being held in person at the Annual Conference. Dates are arranged in advance and the meetings usually last an hour.
